George walks on stage, sits down on the couch and picks up the remote.

George - Hurry up, Martha!  (Clicks the buttons on the remote to find the right channel) It's almost time!

Martha - (runs on stage carrying a bowl of popcorn)   I'm hurrying, I'm hurrying.  (She puts the popcorn down on the coffee table and sits down next to George)

George - (grabs a handful of popcorn and shoves it in his mouth)  Did you bring it?

Martha - Oh rats...I was so busy making popcorn I forgot all about my purse.

George - (pokes Martha in the arm) - Hurry...go get it.   It's gonna start.

Martha - I'll be back in a flash (gets up and runs off stage)

George - (calls after her) Run, Martha!  Run!   The commercial is almost over!

George - (grabs some more popcorn and eats it and looks intently at the television)   4!  Martha...come on.  They're started.

Martha - (runs on stage carrying a purse)

George - 4!  The first number is 4!

Martha (rummages through her purse)  It's here some where.

George - (looks from Martha to the television) 2!   The next number is 2!

Martha - (Mutters 4, 2, 4, 2 while she looks through her purse.  Martha finds the lottery ticket, takes it out of her puts and holds it up for all to see)  I found it!

George - Quick - What does it say?  (leans over and both look at ticket) 2 and 4...do we have those numbers?

Martha - Here's a 4!

George - Look...look.  There's a 2!

Martha - (looks at the television, sits back on the couch and sighs)    There's another commercial.

George - (looks at Martha)  Martha, what if we win?

Martha - Wouldn't that be wonderful?

George - No more worries...

Martha - No more jobs....

George - I could buy a Ferrari!

Martha - (sits up, stares into space) I could get my nails done every week.

George - I could buy a yacht and go fishing anytime I wanted.

Martha - I could get a poodle and put pink bows in her hair.  (sighs happily)

George - (looks at Martha)  We could buy a house...a really big house...like a mansion or something.

Martha - Yeah and we could get a maid too.

George - And someone to walk that poodle because I'm not doing it.

Martha - (looks at TV) Shhh...George.  The commercial is over.  Turn up the volume.

George - (clicks the remote and grabs some more popcorn)   Get ready, Martha.   Here comes the next number.

Martha - (grabs some popcorn and eats it)  This is soooooo exciting!

George - Shhh.  Martha, we missed the number.

Martha - Oh, Oh.  What was it?

George - (looks at TV) Come on lady, repeat the last number.

George and Martha watch the television intently, pause for a moment and yell 7!

George - Is it there?  Do we have a 7?

Martha - (frantically looks at lottery ticket) I don't see it, George.

George - (takes lottery ticket from Martha and looks at it closely and then brushes a piece of popcorn off the ticket).  There it is!   Lucky number 7! S-E-V-E-N!   It was hiding under a piece of popcorn.

Martha - Yeah!  (pulls the popcorn bowl over so that it is directly in front of her.)

George - No more popcorn for you until this over...we want to be able to read the numbers don't we?

Martha - (pushes bowl over to George) You're right, George.  No more popcorn for me.

Martha - (looks at the television)  Here we go.   The next number is......

George - 3!  (looks at card) 3, 3, 3, 3, 3,  Got it!  We got another number, Martha!

Martha - We might win George!

George - Shhh...here comes the next number.

George - 9!  (looks at the ticket) Yes!  There it is, Martha.  Look at that.  (points to ticket and shows it to Martha)

Martha - I can't believe we got another number.

George - One more to go.  Cross your fingers.   Here comes......

Martha - Another commercial.

George - What a stupid time for a commercial.

George and Martha both lean back in chairs.

George - One more number and we could be financially independent for the rest of our lives.

Martha - We wouldn't have to worry about anything every again.

George - We could do whatever we want...

Martha - When ever we want.

George - (sits forward and takes Martha's hand)  We could be free Martha...free to enjoy life!

Martha - Oh George, here comes the last number.

George - (takes Martha's hand) This is it...get ready!

(George and Martha pause, listen intently and slowly look at the lottery card)

Martha - (speaks slowly) 6...George, it's a 6.

George and Martha continue to stare at the card with no expression on their faces.

George and Martha look at each other.  George bows his head and shakes it a few times.

Martha slowly puts the lottery ticket in her purse and closes it.

George looks up, and looks at Martha.  Martha looks at George. Both suddenly grin at each other.

George and Martha - (in unison) WE WON!   Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

George and Martha jump up and dance around the stage singing  "We're in the money.  We're in the money".

Martha – (grabs the front of George’s shirt) George, do you realize this means all our worries are over?

George – (hugs Martha)  You got that right!  We're free! No more debts!  No more bills!  (dances in circles) We can buy whatever we want!  (grabs Martha by the shoulders and looks her in the eye)    We're financially independent.  Now we can live happily ever after!

Martha – (pauses and looks troubled)  I wonder...

(fade to black)
